When do you need to perform some maintenance on or fix your garage door? The obvious answer would be when your garage door no longer opens. However, there are other tell-tale signs that there is an issue with your garage door and it is time for you to have it fixed.

There are obvious indicators that your garage door has a problem. These include such things as a broken spring, faulty brackets, or broken or frayed cables, however, it is those subtle indicators that tell you that it is time to have some maintenance performed on your garage door.

The Garage Door Is Responding Slowly

One of the first types of problems is when the door has a slow response time. It either takes longer to open or close, or does not respond as quickly when you press your garage door opener. This type of delay can be caused by several factors beyond the need to replace the battery in your opener. It could be that there is a short in the wire or that a relay is not properly working.

A Noise Is Occurring When You Open the Door

There is a common noise that is heard when your garage door opens. It is the sound of the wheels rolling through the track and the motor running. However, if you are hearing some odd noises, like creaking or like the motor is straining to open the door, then you may have an issue. The thing to keep in mind is things that are out of ordinary are a clue to you that you may have a problem.

Sagging in the Door

This can be a subtle sign that may be difficult to notice at first. In some instances, there may be a significant sagging in the garage door that is quite noticeable and hard to miss. However, there can also be instances where there is a slight bend or sag in the garage door that you may not notice unless you are thoroughly inspecting it. Most people notice a sagging in the garage door when they have another type of issue with the door. It is the fact that the door is running slow or making a weird noise that suddenly draws their attention to the sagging. So, if you are having one of the other issues occurring, you may want to take a look at your garage door and see if there is sagging somewhere along the way.

These are some good indicators for you to use to look to see if you have an issue with the garage door. If you do, you may need to hire a professional to come out and inspect and see what can be done to get your door back up and fully operational. Regular maintenance and inspections can also help prevent the need for major repairs in the future.
